Beverley Omsky, BMus Ed, H.D.E. in Education

Beverley is an early childhood music specialist, Director and Founder of Petal Concepts, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Education, an H.D.E. in Education, and has continued her studies obtaining Post Graduate Certificates in Guided Imagery in Music, and in Musical Play Therapy.

Beverley has a wide and varied career using her academic background and passion for music education to manage her own private practice which includes holistic music lessons, to establishing music education curriculum for pre-school and primary school students at both private and community venues. She has worked diligently to provide specialty in-service training and resources from early learning through university level teachers and staff, promoting instrumental music programs that focus on the specific needs of young children.

Beverley remains passionate about music education being delivered in an interactive, fun, inclusive and holistic manner to ensure all students are able to learn effectively, which has led to her creation of ‘Adventures at Humminghive – Here We Are!’ As both the author and composer of this educational music based audiobook, she includes life-skills themes in an allegorical musical story full of sing-a-long songs.

The audio book, “Adventures at Humminghive – Here We Are’ brings music to life, using techniques combined with musical scores for child initiated learning.  The audiobook can be included in early childhood music programs and be used by parents, grandparents and care-givers who would like to provide a fun-filled medium where the story is used to teach social awareness, good communication, resilience, self-confidence, empathy and self-belief.

Beverley's musical audiobook, ‘Adventures at Humminghive’ has been purposely created for young children. This musical story showcases friendships and relationships within the different communities of Humminghive.

The characters in the story model compassion, empathy, and conflict resolution, through music, by promoting self-motivation, resilience and confidence help to shape positive outcomes. The kid-friendly characters promote community life with peace and harmony through the use of singing, dancing, meditating, storytelling, showing empathy, turn taking, social inclusion, and positivity in thought and action.

The philosophy that forms the foundation for Beverley Omsky’s curricula is based on the Early Years Learning Development Framework (EYLD), Carl Orff, Play Based Learning Principles and elements of Musical Play Therapy, Guided Imagery in Music and Guided Listening.

The initiation and collaboration of the children in their musical journey is a key factor in how Beverley approaches her work. Music is used holistically to help develop skills of lifelong learning. The children are encouraged to ask questions and direct their learning in a supportive and interactive environment.

Beverley is currently completing a follow up ‘Adventures at Humminghive’ audiobook, an eBook and print book.
