Children along the autism spectrum, those with ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, anxiety, or other neurological challenges often respond well to either weight or pressure. These inputs help regulate the deep pressure proprioceptive sensory system which in turn helps children develop improved body awareness.

The technology and therapeutic principles incorporated into specially designed clothing which provide deep pressure and tactile sensory input result in positive outcomes in sensory processing tolerance as well as in positive behavioral responses.

Deep sensory pressure often increases our “happy-hormones,” such as serotonin and dopamine, while also slowing down our involuntary functions, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and the stress hormone cortisol. For children with a highly sensitive nervous system, this results in increased feelings of comfort and calm.

Wearing clothing that provides tactile sensory input and deep pressure help children to better organize and focus on tasks while maintaining more appropriate behavior responses.  In addition, children with lower tone, or hypotonia musculature, will experience postural support along with the sensory benefits.

Throughout her career as a Pediatric OT, Susan noticed the only garments available for sensory input were improperly sized, stigmatizing for the wearer, and something she would not want to put on her own children.

Kozie Clothes was founded by Susan Donohoe, a Pediatric Occupational Therapist Certified in Sensory Integration, Sensory Enrichment Therapy, and a longtime advocate for children with special needs. Kozie Clothes was established as a way to incorporate Neuroscience principles into fashionable, on-trend, adaptive clothing and products for children with sensory and other medical needs. It is from this passion and commitment to helping children the concept for a line of adorable and kid friendly products offering therapeutic benefits, safety, and ease of use evolved.

The concept of sensory input through relevant styled clothing is what drove the development of Susan’s Kozie’s top selling compression line.  Kozie designs feature shirts in all sleeve types, long pants, and shorts, all made in a variety of colors and sizes.  The material is a nylon spandex, chosen for its 4-way stretch ability and recovery of form, as well as moisture whisking abilities. This material retains its shape and is more durable than other stretching fabrics.

All compression clothes can be worn alone, or fashionably layered with other favorite pieces.

Additionally, Kozie Clothes developed product solutions for newborns, preemies and children that require serious medical attention, providing easier ways for guardians and medical staff to care for them.
